（30年前の）今月の“Piping Times”シリーズ

| パイパー森は、“The College of Piping”の刊行する月刊機関誌“Piping Times”を1977年10月から定期購読しています（途中数年間のブランクが有りますが…）。 私がこの機関誌の存在を知ったのは、1976年の６月に東京パイピング・ソサエティーへの参加のお誘い受け、山根さんから、カレッジ・オブ・パイピングの事について何やかやと教えて頂いた時でした。しばらくは、定期購読されていた山根さんから時々見せて頂くばかりでしたが、きちんとハイランド・パイプと取り組んで行くならば、やはり他人任せではイケナイと反省し、自分自身で定期購読することにしました。 そして、当時の混み入った送金手続き等を経て、私の手元に最初に届いたのが1977年10月号です。特に意図した訳でないので全くの偶然ですが、その通巻ナンバーを見て知ったのは、この号がこの機関誌の創刊からちょうど30年目の第１号に当たるということ。カレッジ・オブ・パイピングの創設が1944年のことですから、機関誌自体は（最初から月刊だとしたら）カレッジ創設から３年程経過した1947年10月に創刊されたようです。 このコーナーでは、 創刊からジャスト 60年目に当たる2007年10月を連載のスタートとして、毎月ちょうど30年前のその月の“Piping Times”を紐解き、メインの記事だけでなく広告ページなども含めた様々な誌面を通して、その時々のハイランド・パイプやスコットランドを巡る状況を振り返りたいと思います。 カレッジの創設者の一人である Seumas MacNeill がエディターを務めていた間（〜1996年）と、 Doughal MacNeill（Seumas の血縁者ではないとのこと）がエディターを引き継いだ時代（〜2000年頃）の“Piping Times”には下に示すようにピーブロック関連の記事が豊富です。このシリーズは、自分自身にとってもそれらの記事を改めてじっくり読み直すいい機会になりそうです。 |
